The problem was to figure out how to show a black-on-black product in a unique way that is both intriguing and informative. The unique concept I came up with allows the viewer a high-quality look at the front and back of the product, simultaneously, with their phone. No one in the industry had ever shown their product in this way, and OtterBox still owns this concept within their category.
Each image was shot in three parts on textures that were mainly high-end flooring tiles (steel coated, slate, specialty designs, bamboo, etc.). The product was meticulously centered in the photograph. One shot of the back, one shot of the front, and one shot of the background. 8 hours of Photoshop magic later, I ended up with this magically surreal pieces that were as much art as product shots. I handled all aspects of the concept, set preparation, photography, and retouching.
These images were used extensively in OtterBox’s print collateral, trade show presence, and online web campaigns and e-commerce site.
